The 2019 Carter Reunion was held in Culpeper, Virginia, with an overwhelming amount of family history, untapped until now. This was an opportunity to visit a new location. Our theme, "The Charge of the Minutemen -- Carters on the Front Line", provided opportunities to know how our family participated and to visit the historical locations connected to our family. Twenty-eight members arrived early for an opportunity to visit our options for the day including, Monticello, Montpelier, and Culpeper County Library to mention a few. On Thursday, we toured the Museum of Culpeper History which featured historic maps. The dinner speaker was Victor Dunn at Luigi's Italian Restaruant. Friday's schedule started with Dr. Eric Lawson from Germanna Foundation. Following his presentation, we headed for the Phillip Carter Winery for a tour, grape harvest, tasting of the grapes and a BBQ lunch. Dinner was at Grass Rootes. Our Saturday first stop was the Graffiti House in Brandy Station. Build during the Civil War, the house was used as a hospital by North and South. Graffiti on the walls included names, drawings, names of units, and inscriptions left by soldiers on both sides. The next stop was Farley Plantation, a home that had been in the Carter family for generations and is on the National Register of Historic places. Our tour was led by Clark Hall, an authority on Culpeper in the Civil War. We were honored to meet Cita Suratgar, the current owner. Lunch followed at Pepper's Grill with the afternoon available for time on your own, a tour, shopping, or a nap. Dinner was at the Piedmont Steak House, where our speaker was Tom Hamill, President of the Minutemen, SAR Chapter of Culpeper. Following breakfast on Sunday, we all headed for home looking forward to the 19th Annual Reunion in Southwest Virginia.
